London Music Masters
In 2007 Ashmole Primary School began a partnership with the charity London Music Masters (LMM) which encourages children, their families and their communities to develop a life-long appreciation for classical music in all its varied forms. The school works in partnership with LMM to provide access to music education that is of an exceptionally high quality, in addition to a wonderful range of musical experiences with world-class musicians and venues.
When children join the school in Reception, the school funds their music education and instrument tuition throughout their time in the EYFS and KS1. In Reception, children have regular musicianship lessons to develop children’s musical ear and to introduce them to the fundamentals of music in a creative and fun way – through listening, singing, playing and movement. In Key Stage 1, all children learn to play a string instrument through a combination of weekly paired and group lessons. Children are able to take their instrument home to practise on.
When children join Key Stage 2, they have the option of continuing to learn their instrument through two different programme strands to suit the different learning styles of individual children. These can include group and individual lessons. These lessons are parent-funded with financial support for parents whose children are in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant and bursaries available for parents who may require them. In Key Stage 2, all children learning an instrument also have a place in the school’s strings orchestra which practises weekly and holds regular performances for parents.
Through the school’s work with LMM, our pupils have access to some wonderful performance opportunities that vary from in-school workshops with visiting musicians, orchestras or LMM award holders, to performances at venues such as the prestigious Royal Festival Hall or Wigmore Hall.
